::INFORMATION ON FACESPACE::
We’ve been working on FACESPACE for over a year now. Our initial plan was to shoot it last summer in Flint, MI. However, due to our decision to move back to Ohio, so Dominick could attend film school at Wright State University, plans to shoot were shelved. Today, we’re looking for actors and we’re ready to start shooting.
FACESPACE is a comedy web series about a group of college students and their daily interactions both in school and online while using the social media outlet, FACESPACE. Each character has their own unique quirk that makes them special. The series is as much about the relationships these characters share as it is about deconstructing stereotypes through humor.
If you are easily offended by jokes about religion, disability (or ability), sexuality, gender, race and ethnicity then this probably isn’t the show for you. However, we have had a lot of fun writing the scripts for these episodes, and planning out the stories of the lives of our eight main characters.
The Main Characters for FACESPACE are:
Ashley Walker: Ashley has been involved in Musical Theatre since she was a child. Her favorite musical is “Annie” because she had the lead in the show when she was a kid. She often gets paired as a scene partner with Nick. Despite her good nature, Ashley isn’t exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. She does have a diverse background, having been raised by a lesbian mother and gay stage father, so despite her lack of brain cells, she is rather sweet.
Brandon Hammond: Brandon is in his 30s and does not attended college, though he does work at the local pizza place where the main characters hang out. Brandon is gay. Having grown up in Flint, MI, he is often in contact with his waitress mom, Bernice, who raised Brandon and his brother, Thad, as a single mother. Brandon has some obsessions with a famous actor from the 80s, on a stalker-esque level.
Chelsea Yutz: Chelsea comes from a devoutly Christian upbringing. At school she is an Acting Major, but she also enjoys teaching Sunday school. She is the youngest member of the main characters, as she is in her late teens. Chelsea is one of 14 children, and often has to help her parents by taking care of her siblings. Chelsea comes from the generation of technology and is obsessed with gadgets. Unaware of Nick and Ashley’s life situations, she often attempts to invite them to her church.
Jennifer Ian: Jen is almost done with a degree in early childhood education, but this seems unsatisfying to her. She has been Nick’s best friend since third grade. Jen is married to Jeffrey, an insurance salesman, who does not appeal to Jen’s sense of adventure. However, he is good at his job and she wants for nothing, providing a weight off her intelligentsia parents’ (Dan and Ann Ian) minds. What Jen really wants to do is leave Jeffrey, buy a farm and finish her undergraduate degree; only she wants it in agriculture, not teaching.
Jonathan Swisher: Jonathan is Nick’s roommate. A Business Major with a sharp mind, Jonathan started blogging at a young age. Jonathan’s mother was a single mom and he had no contact with his dad. Seeing how hard she struggled to make ends meet, he decided to take matters into his own hands and start his own company. He dreams of being one of the Big Wigs of social media, and believes there is no better time to start on the path to achieving greatness than today.
Leonard Zuckerman: Leonard is a racial minority who was adopted by a loving Jewish couple, Miriam and Samuel Zuckerman. Having grown up rich, there is a lot of pressure on Leonard to become a lawyer, like his father. Instead, all Leonard really wants is to be Italian so he can become a Mob Boss. Obsessed with the Mafia, he finds ways around the Italian requirement and starts running his own crew…or at least the one in his imagination.
Nick Santangelo: The middle child of seven, in a Roman Catholic, Italian family, Nick sticks out like a sore thumb. Dealing with both issues of gender and disability, he is lucky enough to have the support of his parents Carmen and Vincent (his mom likes pot a little too much, anyway) and his siblings. Though Nick is often harassed by his brothers Dante and Gino, they always bail him out when his personal attendants mess with his life. Nick is a film major who ends up taking far too many acting classes, and he’s OCD, to an extreme level.
Tiffany Love: Not very much is known about Tiffany. She mysteriously showed up one day. She seems to be obsessed with Nick or his wheelchair…or both. She also has a lot of friends on FACESPACE who have disabilities. Tiffany is not in college, though she shows up every day to try to make her love muffin, Nick’s life a little easier. Of course, Nick isn’t all that receptive to her affections. Tiffany lacks understanding of the world or much of anything. It is unclear whether she graduated high school or grade school…for that matter.
Other Characters that Matter:
Mindy Madison: Mindy’s obsession with Monopoly gets her in trouble…with the law.
Abraham Jackson: He’s a passionate Christian who is in love with Chelsea.
Andrea: Andrea is a Christian who tolerates Chelsea’s leadership though she believes her version of Christianity is better.
Gertrude Phantasie Higgins: A free spirit raised in a Hippie commune, Gertrude is an English Major who wants desperately to be friends with Ashley.
Isobel: The owner of the pizza place where Brandon and Rhonda work.
Rhonda Keller: Brandon’s nemesis who refuses to admit she’s a lesbian.
Bernice Hammond/Ann Ian/Carmen Santagelo/Miriam Zuckerman: The moms of Brandon, Jen, Nick and Leonard.
Dante and Gino Santangelo: The only two of Nick’s siblings we see. Gino is in his early to mid-20s and Dante is in his early 30s.
Ms. BV: A teacher full of prejudice.
Various Aides: Nick’s employees who take care of him, but never seem to get the job done right.
