ABOUT US

Electric Marshmallow Productions is the brainchild of screenwriter, Ashtyn Law, and director, activist, and performer, Dom Evans. Growing up poor in the Midwest meant they both spent an inordinate event of time watching television and dreaming of a better future for themselves and others like them. Their partnership of 23 years has seen the pair working as copywriters, editors, web designers, graphic designers, consultants, researchers, and SEO experts. They also have a wealth of life experience from which they've been able to tap into when writing engaging, inclusive scripts.

Dom (he/they) began his career in the public eye as a child. He is a former poster child, actor, singer, public figure, and current activist fighting for better representation, inclusion, and equity for disabled people in the media and beyond. His activism continued in the LGBTQIA community, as a teenager in the 90s after he came out as "liking girls" at 16. Together, with Ashtyn (she/her) the two created #FilmDis, a hashtag discussion on Twitter about better representation of disability in the media, which attracted famous directors, comic book writers, and more. FilmDis started as a discussion, and ended up becoming a media monitoring organization that has released three intensive studies into disability representation in the media.

Prior to that, Ashtyn helped Dom through film school, serving in a physical capacity, moving around equipment and helping him shoot film when he physically was unable to do so. Thanks to her help, he graduated with a BFA in film production from Wright State University. Ashtyn has also studied screenwriting and psychology, both of which have helped her craft the amazing stories she has written.

Frustrated with where representation has been going, the duo set out to study television representation and figure out what was missing. Between 2018 and 2022 they released three studies with full papers outlining the state of disability representation on television. Using an intersectional lens, their work created a blueprint that outlines who and what are missing from television, and media, in general.

OUR GOAL

Their goal has always been to create beautiful art. With that in mind, in 2022 Dom started outlining, and Ashtyn got to work. What they have created is over 20 television pilots, which they have since fleshed out, workshopped, and prepared for development and/or sale. Today, they stand by all of their shows and hope to have the chance to produce all of them.

Dom, who recently directed the music video for "Spaces" by James Ian, with a crew in Hollywood from WILD GIFT, plans to direct the pilots for their upcoming television shows, "The Park" – a slice of life dramedy set in a trailer park in the 1980s and "Space Pirates" – a sci-fi series about a Deaf space pirate who must investigate a devastating attack that has left her vulnerable and alone, while being targeted by multiple intergalactic forces.
